Naimishya

A Fleeting Moment, A lasting Legacy

Naimshya Logo for Dark Background

“An impulse from a vernal wood
May teach you more of man,
Of moral evil and of good,
Than all the sages can."

~William Wordsworth
(an extract from 'Tables Turned')

Naimishya, the name chosen for AIChE India SRC 2025, finds its origin in the ancient Sanskrit root “nimiṣa” (निमिष)—a word that means “a twinkling of an eye,” a moment so brief it’s barely seen, but deeply felt. In another light, it carries a deeper legacy. It is tied to Naimisharanya, the revered forest from the Mahabharata and the Puranas, where sages gathered for profound yajñas (sacrifices) and spiritual dialogues. A place not just of worship, but of knowledge—where thoughts took root, and voices carried through time.

This is why Naimishya is more than a name. It is a moment of cosmic significance—the kind that appears in a flash but holds the power to shift the course of destiny. And that is precisely what AIChE India SRC 2025 aims to be. A convergence of minds, a platform of change. A place where innovation is seeded and ideas are exchanged, in the hope that in the blink of an eye, we can redefine our shared path to a sustainable future. In that instant, we witness a quiet revolution—where environmental stewardship, conservation, and responsible engineering are not buzzwords, but collective action.

Today, as we stand 25 years into the 21st century, here on our small blue planet, this moment is ours. A moment where the pulse of human progress beats in rhythm with the Earth. Where our commitment to sustainability turns today’s questions into tomorrow’s answers. Where engineers—today’s pioneers, discoverers, and explorers—lead the way with bold vision and quiet resilience. They understand that every fleeting instant carries the potential to change everything.

Imagine a heartbeat: delicate, powerful. In that beat lies metamorphosis—a transformation driven not by grandeur, but by care. By resolve. By the idea that even the smallest effort, the briefest moment of intention, can nurture the planet and shape the destiny of humankind.

Naimishya is not just a name or a theme. It’s a gentle reminder. That we, as engineers, as dreamers, as caretakers of Earth, share a duty. A calling to turn moments into movements, actions into legacies. To build not just for today, but for the centuries ahead. To ensure that whatever we do, it must turn out to be for the greatest benefit to humankind and to its lovely little home in the vast overlapping cosmos, the Earth. And in doing so, to honour the spirit of Engineering Earth’s Future: Pathways to Net Zero.

Let us carry Naimishya in our thoughts and our actions. Let it guide our footsteps and fuel our purpose. Because within even the briefest instance, there lies the seeds of profound change, of enduring wisdom, and of a kinder, braver, better tomorrow.
